Turn "carbon" into Treasure; Shenghong Petrochemic Innovates To Create a Green Negative Carbon Industry Chain

On September 25, the green negative carbon industry chain project, “Carbon dioxide capture and utilization - green methanol - new energy materials” innovatively built by Shenghong Petrochemical ushered in an important node; the 100,000 tonnes/year carbon dioxide-based green methanol project was officially put into production. On that day, Shenghong Petrochemical officially released the industry's first "White Paper on the Green Negative Carbon Industry Chain", which aims to provide a reference and referenceable Shenghong model for the green transformation of the industry with a number of innovative practices on the resource utilization of carbon dioxide.

Thorir Ibsen, the Icelandic Ambassador to China, attended the white paper conference and delivered a speech. Zhu Xingbo, Vice Mayor of Lianyungang Municipal Government, Shi Haibo, Secretary of the Party Work Committee of Xuwei New District, Xu Xiaosu, Deputy Director of the Management Committee of Xuwei New District, Qian Xinhua, Vice President of Shenghong Petrochemical Industry Group, and Yang Jun, General Manager of Silbang Petrochemical, attended the commissioning ceremony.

Negative carbon means that the amount of carbon dioxide reduced in the process of production or use is greater than the amount of emissions. At present, China's petrochemical industry is entering a critical period of high-quality and low-carbon transformation and development. Under the background of "dual carbon", it is particularly urgent and of great significance to develop subversive and original green low-carbon new technologies. Among them, negative carbon technology is expected to be an important way to achieve carbon neutrality by capturing and using carbon dioxide to reduce carbon emissions.

As a demonstration project of the green negative carbon industry chain, Shenghong Petrochemical's carbon dioxide production green methanol device adopts international advanced ETL patented technology and is designed to actively absorb carbon dioxide with a scale of 150,000 tonnes/year. It can be combined with green hydrogen and converted into 100,000 tonnes/year of green methanol, and then used for the production of green high-end new materials. Compared with traditional tree planting and afforestation, the device's "simulated photosynthesis" has a stronger ability to absorb carbon dioxide, and the recovery conversion rate is nearly 100%. At the same time, it can indirectly reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 550,000 tonnes/year, equivalent to 37,000 hectares of forest planting, or 370 square kilometers of land. It is of positive significance and has a significant benchmark effect in reducing carbon emissions, improving the ecological environment and extending the green industrial chain.
