Chairman Miao Hangen Guest on CCTV's “Dialogue"; Stepping towards the High End of the Industrial Chain

On April 15, CCTV's "Dialogue" focused on "Made in China". As the winner of the 7th China Industrial Award and a representative of private enterprises for the high-quality development of the real economy, Miao Hangen, chairman of Shenghong Holding Group, was a guest on the "Dialogue" program to share Shenghong's 31-years of innovation and development.

01 In which aspect does it represent the highest level of manufacturing in China?

Miao Hangen: The first product is recycled fiber made of waste plastic bottles. Our production capacity is 600,000 tonnes, with a global market share of more than 50%; the second product is EVA film material for photovoltaics. We have made breakthroughs in research and development through technological innovation (foreign monopoly), and currently has a global market share of nearly 30%; the third product is acrylonitrile for carbon fiber. Our production capacity is 780,000 tonnes. At present, it ranks first in the country and the second in the world. After the fourth set of units is put into production in the second half of this year, we will become the world's number one.

02 What is the confidence in the industrial chain supply chain?

Miao Hangen: We continue to make efforts in Import substitution industrialization to solve China's bottleneck problem. At present, 100% of the POE film materials for photovoltaics in China need to be imported. The POE we independently developed was successfully tested last year. Now we are urgently industrializing. After more than a year, the first set of 100,000-tonne (POE) units can be put into production, contributing to the security of the photovoltaic industry chain. Through research, development and innovation, we make medium and high-end products and lead the development of the industry.

03 What will enable us to shift from relying on imports to replacing them?

Miao Hangen: Over the past 31 years, Shenghong has embraced innovation while maintaining its traditional focus, spanning three decades. In the first decade, we became the world's leading dyeing and printing company, and we remain the world's largest dyeing and printing factory, ranking first in China's industry for over ten consecutive years. In the second decade, we developed chemical fibers. Our national-level manufacturing innovation center (National Advanced Functional Fiber Innovation Center) was the first of its kind in Jiangsu Province's manufacturing sector and the first in the entire country to be led by a private enterprise. In the third decade, we expanded into refining and chemical processing, developed new energy and new materials, and continuously moved upstream in the industrial chain, transforming and upgrading. Looking back on these 30 years of development, my takeaway is that we must continuously move forward, striving towards the high end of the industrial chain.

04 How can Made in China do its own thing?

Miao Hangen: Our National Advanced Functional Fiber Innovation Center has addressed two common problems faced by the industry. First, the antimony-containing catalysts used in fibers, when exceeding standards, could impact drinking water safety. We have now developed an environmentally friendly alternative to antimony, resolving the water pollution issue. Second, over 90% of the oils used in our chemical fibers were previously imported. Through collaboration with universities, we have successfully developed our own oil products, and the domestic substitution rate is gradually increasing, addressing the issue of filling gaps in the industry chain. Our innovation center brings together leading enterprises and universities for collaborative development, which plays a significant role in strengthening and supplementing the supply chain.
