Shenghong Carbon Capture Fiber Selected for Fortune China Best Design List

On October 22, the 2025 Fortune China Best Design List was announced, and Shenghong Holdings Group's Ruikong carbon capture fiber case was selected. Fortune believes that the most moving designs are not those that use technology for flashy purposes, but those that allow technology to exert a universally beneficial force in the vulnerable parts of society. Sustainability has also transformed from a once "bonus question" into a mandatory course in contemporary commercial design. Shenghong's unique production line transforms carbon dioxide captured from industrial gases into fashionable fabrics, demonstrating how the concept of sustainability can be extended from material innovation to systems thinking.

Although the world is highly concerned about carbon emissions’ reduction, carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS) technology has become the key to coping with climate change. However, in the field of fiber manufacturing, there are very few studies on the combination of carbon capture and fiber production, and there are obvious technical gaps. Against the background of this strategy, the carbon capture fiber research and development project was born.

In 2024, the Shenghong Holding Group pioneered the engineering technology to transfrom carbon dioxide to high-purity ethylene glycol, innovated to create the world's first low-carbon recycling green industry chain of "carbon dioxide capture and utilization - green ethylene glycol - functional polyester fiber", and created the carbon capture fiber brand Reocoer. This technology captures the carbon dioxide emitted by industrial production, which is liquefied and purified, and further converted it into ethylene glycol. It also develops direct esterification-condensation and melt composite direct spinning processes to prepare a variety of functional polyester fiber products such as elastic, ultrafine and anti-ultraviolet. With carbon-negative ethylene glycol as a monomer, polyester fiber prepared by low-carbon polyester and melt direct spinning technology has remarkable environmental protection benefits. Each tonne of yarn can consume 364 kilograms of carbon dioxide, which is 28.4% lower than the carbon emissions of virgin fiber. This project won the International Textile Federation Sustainability and Innovation Award, becoming the only project in China to win this award that year.

At present, Shenghong Holding Group is building the world's first carbon dioxide polyester fiber factory with the green and sustainable preparation technology of high-purity ethylene glycol as the core, and building polyester fiber polymer spinning equipment with an annual output of 30,000 tonnes, which can capture and utilize more than 10,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide every year.
