CCTV's "Around China" Show Focuses on Shenghong's New Exploration of Green and Low-carbon Carbon Capture Fibers

On January 6, 2025, CCTV Chinese International Channel's "Around China" program focused on the innovative exploration and practice of carbon dioxide fiber production by the National Advanced Functional Fiber Innovation Center.

The "Around China" program went into the National Advanced Functional Fiber Innovation Center and focused on its groundbreaking experiments. At the center, researchers are conducting reaction experiments in numerous containers to address a pressing human challenge, exploring the application of carbon dioxide in fibers and transforming it into a exploitable resource. While other countries are using electrocatalytic thermal treatment technology to convert carbon dioxide into carbon nanofibers, the research team at the innovation center is also working on this project. After more than a year of intense work and countless experiments and adjustments, they have successfully converted carbon dioxide into functional polyester fibers through a series of reactions, providing a green solution for the textile industry to reduce carbon emissions.

Currently, Shenghong has built the world's first low-carbon recycling green industrial chain of "carbon dioxide capture and utilization - green ethylene glycol - functional polyester fiber" and created a carbon capture fiber brand Reocoer. This project won the "International Textile Federation Sustainability and Innovation Award". The technology captures carbon dioxide emitted from industrial production and further converts it into fiber-grade ethylene glycol through chemical reactions. It also develops direct "esterification-polycondensation" and melt composite direct spinning processes to prepare a variety of functional polyester fiber products such as elastic, ultra-fine, and UV-resistant fibers, which have been successfully used in the textile and apparel field to achieve recycling of carbon resources and play a leading and demonstrative role in the sustainable development of the textile industry. According to estimates, using carbon dioxide to make fibers reduces carbon emissions by 28.4% compared to virgin fibers. The National Advanced Functional Fiber Innovation Center, headed by Shenghong Holding Group, is the first national manufacturing innovation center in the country led by a private enterprise. Focusing on the principle of "building an innovation chain from the industrial chain", the Innovation Center Alliance has attracted more than 160 members from leading industry leading enterprises, universities, and scientific research institutes. It focuses on scientific and technological research and development in the fields of high-end fiber materials and textiles, new functional fiber materials, and cutting-edge new fiber materials, and builds an innovation alliance with a full innovation chain from basic research, technology development, product manufacturing, and commercial application.
