In the past few days, the central, provincial and industry mainstream media such as People's Daily, Xinhua News Agency, China Chemical News, Jiangsu Economic Daily, Hyundai Express, Yangzi Evening News, etc. have turned their attention to the booming Shenghong Green Petrochemical Industry Base, and issued a number of special reports praising the Shenghong Group's focus on the "dual carbon" goal, relying on being innovation-driven, and their every efforts to build an ecological, low-carbon and circular modern green petrochemical industry base.

High-intensity investment to build a solid foundation for environmental protection
In order to further build a sustainable green industrial chain and implement the national strategic requirements for promoting the transformation and upgrade of the petrochemical industry, in 2010, Shenghong Group went north to Lianyungang with the aim building an ecological, safe and innovative petrochemical industry base. At present, the 2.4 million tonnes/year alcohol-based multi-co-production project of Sierbang Petrochemical and the 3.9 million tonnes/year PTA project of Honggang Petrochemical have been completed, along with complete supporting facilities such as storage terminals and cogeneration plants. As a key project supported by the State Council's "Petrochemical Industry Planning and Layout Scheme," the Shenghong Group's 16 million tonnes/year integrated refining and chemical project is progressing rapidly and will be completed and put into operation within the year. The Shenghong Group has become the leading enterprise in the Lianyungang base, and one of the seven major world-class petrochemical industrial bases in China.
Shenghong Petrochemical's completed projects have a total environmental protection investment of 2.7 billion yuan, accounting for 9% of the total project investment. The 16 million tonnes/year integrated refining and chemical project under construction has a total investment of 67.7 billion yuan, of which 4.3 billion yuan is for environmental protection, accounting for nearly 6% of the total investment. Both the amount and proportion of environmental protection investment are among the leading levels in the industry. This ensures the project's advanced environmental protection technology and equipment, with all energy consumption and emission indicators far exceeding national standards, laying a solid foundation for the company's green and environmentally friendly operation.

Operate with high standards and build a green system
The Shenghong Group strictly implements the latest national environmental protection standards, and in accordance with the requirements of special emission limits in the Yangtze River Delta, strengthens the whole process of green production and promotes energy-saving and environmental protection integrated clean production. A number of energy-saving, water-saving and emission-reducing transformation projects have been implemented one after another, realizing source reduction, process control and recycling, and achieving the goals of energy saving, pollution reduction and efficiency increase.
Sierbang Petrochemical's "Comprehensive Utilization of Waste Acid Resource Technology Transformation Project" has realized the comprehensive utilization of products and by-products of three sets of joint devices and zero environmental protection emissions; through the waste heat recovery device to generate steam reuse, it has achieved cost reduction and efficiency increase; 14 international advanced technologies have been adopted. Through the integrated production mode of the joint device upstream and downstream, the recycling of "three wastes" reproduction has been realized, while reducing emissions, creating a closed-circuit green industrial chain, and saving 22,000 tonnes/year of standard coal after the implementation of various measures.
Building upon its advanced industry-leading equipment, Honggang Petrochemical continues to optimize and further explore its potential. Its recently commissioned biogas recovery and utilization project, using a 30t/h biogas boiler, recovers and utilizes biogas generated from the plant's wastewater pretreatment station. This reduces emissions, achieves energy recovery and clean energy utilization, optimizes the energy structure, and improves overall energy efficiency. Once fully operational, this project will reduce the company's purchased steam consumption by 240,000 tonnes/year, lower annual comprehensive energy consumption by 24,000 tonnes of standard coal equivalent, and reduce CO2 emissions by 70,000 tonnes/year. The PTA Phase I unit is undergoing energy-saving renovations, which will also significantly reduce the unit's demineralized water and steam consumption, lowering annual comprehensive energy consumption by 17,000 tonnes of standard coal equivalent and CO2 emissions by 30,000 tonnes/year.
High-level planning, low-carbon to win the future
Through its relentless pursuit and efforts in green and sustainable development, Shenghong Group has established a complete system for sustainable development, transforming waste into treasure and promoting recycling, across its entire industrial chain, from downstream polyester fiber production to upstream oil refining. The company's environmental work has been widely recognized by society. In 2018, the Shenghong Group's subsidiary, Honggang Petrochemical, was successfully selected for the third batch of national-level "Green Factories" and the China Petrochemical Industry "Green Factory" list. Following the directives of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation, the Shenghong Group, as a key enterprise representative, participated in the drafting of the "PTA Green Factory Evaluation Guidelines," integrating the "Shenghong Model" of green development into it.
The layout of Shenghong Group's green development is further extended. At present, the company has launched the overall plan for carbon peaking and carbon neutrality, and launched CCUS (carbon capture, utilization and sequestration) project research to explore the cutting-edge technology of carbon emission reduction and the technical path to achieve zero-carbon production in the long term.
In addition, Shenghong Group actively responds to the national green and low-carbon energy development strategy and plans to use the clean energy provided by the Lianyun Port Tianwan Nuclear Power Plant to replace the traditional coal-fired thermal power plant and supply heat energy to the project. Nuclear energy heating projects have the unique advantages of being carbon-free and environmentally friendly. Coal consumption and total pollutant emissions will be greatly reduced. It is also expected that the whole industry will take the lead in realizing “carbon-zero heating" and set a new benchmark for the green and sustainable development of China's petrochemical industry.
Zhuang Xiangning, deputy director of the Ministry of Quality, Safety and Environmental Protection of the China Federation of Petroleum and Chemical Industries, commented that Shenghong Petrochemical's green development model reflects the high awareness and sense of responsibility of enterprises for ecological environmental protection and low-carbon development, and also represents the development direction of green transformation of China's petrochemical industry.
